Locating a name in the War Cloister
Every biography on this site contains a location code, comprising either Outer, for World War I names, or Inner for World War II names followed by a letter and a number.
The classification scheme works in a clockwise direction and begins by turning left after entering the cloister through Angel Gate.
World War I Names
These are always on the outer wall. There are eight main panels with six smaller panels of names on each one. Every biography on this site contains a location code. World War I names are always prefixed by the word ‘Outer’ referring to the outer wall, then a letter and a number.
For example Outer C4 is the third panel located on the outer wall, and number 4 refers to number 4 of the 6 sub panels within panel C.
World War II Names
These are all on the inside columns and grouped in pairs, they too are coded clockwise from the Angel Gate. Their codes are prefixed by the word ‘inner’, then a letter and a number.
For example the first panel (opposite the Africa corner) is Inner A1 and the second is Inner A2. The codes continue in this fashion through to the letter G.
